Studio Omi Tahara

Studio Omi Tahara is a design and consulting studio founded by Japanese designer Omi Tahara, based in Milan.A self-taught designer, his creative journey began in Japan, where a deep interest in modern design emerged during his studies in civil engineering.In 2002, he received a special prize from the French design magazine INTRAMUROS, selected from over 1,000 proposals from more than 50 countries. He moved to Milan in 2003 to collaborate with Milan-based designer Kazuhiko Tomita, who had a deep professional relationship with Vico Magistretti. Through this collaboration, Omi established his fundamental design skills.After working with Tomita, Omi collaborated with Italian designer Francesco Rota in Milan, gaining practical experience and deeper insights into the world of Italian design. In 2011, he established his own studio in Milan and has been actively working mainly in Europe.Omi’s design style is characterized by a gentle mood and meticulous attention to detail. Within seemingly simple forms, a profound pursuit of quality is embedded. Utilizing various elements such as shapes, materials, functionalities, eras, universalities, and culture, he expresses his own unique worldview.Initially focusing primarily on furniture design, in recent years, Omi’s work has expanded significantly, encompassing a wider range of design disciplines as well as creative direction and business consulting. He approaches design with a comprehensive vision, thoughtfully considering every step from concept to production, and ultimately the experience of the end user.He has received numerous international awards, including the Red Dot Design Award, iF Design Award, and Cool Japan Award.
